$haddy

Since we were on the topic of megachuches this week, I was curious and wondered what the pastor at one of the megachurches near my house makes for his salary. Apparently, he would not reveal his net worth, but is building a house that costs over $1,000,000. I think that's way to much for a pastor to be making. What do you guys think?

  1. You're right, this is $hady! I think it is so interesting that the pastor justifies his reasoning by saying that Jesus would not want other people to know. To me, a lack of transparency often seems to point to some degree of guilt, so I wonder if the pastor realizes that his congregants would perhaps not approve if they found out how much money he makes. Further, perhaps he is worried about not being seen as relatable to other worshippers - I assume most people in general cannot afford a million dollar home! This definitely reminds me of Ali's Prosperity Gospel blog post, in which many churches encourage their poorer members to donate large sums of money, even if they cannot truly afford it. I wonder if this applies to Elevation Church in any way.
